Abstract
Podcasts offer a wide range of content or materials from native speakers that can be selected and downloaded based on students' interests or teachers' instructions. The research question is, "Does the use of podcasts in teaching improve students' speaking skills at SMPN 20 Kupang?" The purpose of this study is to determine whether podcasts in teaching can enhance students' speaking skills at SMPN 20 Kupang. This study employs a quantitative research method. The quantitative quasi-experimental method aims to test predetermined hypotheses applied to a specific population and sample students studied were20 people who were divided into two groups, 10 became the control group and the other 10 became the experimental group. Data collection is conducted using research instruments, and data analysis is carried out through quantitative or statistical techniques. In the control group, the mean score increased from 30.00 in the pre-test to 31.80 in the post-test, with a statistically significant difference (p=0.002). Inthe experimental group, agreater improvement was observed, with the mean score rising from 30.60 in the pre-test to 37.10 in the post-test, also showing a significant difference (p = 0.037). These findings indicate that podcasts have a more substantial impact on the speaking skills of grade VIII students at SMPN 20 Kupang. This can be seen from the pre-test and post-test results, which show significant differences and the presence of an impact before and after the intervention. The conclusion drawn from this research is that podcasts can greatly aid and improve the development of speaking skills among grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 20 Kupang.
