Abstract

This research was conducted to answer two questions: 1)What are the types of meaning found in the lyric of Sumbanese traditional songs? 2) What are the function found the lyric of Sumbanese traditional songs? The writing focuses on the meaning and function of the song. The subject of this research is all the lyric and sentence of the threesumba song lyric. The write uses a qualitative method, where the data is in the lyric of three songs that have meaning in the lyrics. Data were analyzed qualitatively. Based on the analysis it is found out that this one two types of meaning namely Lexical and contextual meaning, while function of songs are to educate, to entertaint and to advise as moral value.
