Abstract
This research is entitled “A Descriptive study of teachers’ teaching strategy in building students' discipline and responsibility for learning in class at SMP Negeri 20 Kupang”. The formulation of the problem in this research is: What are the teachers’ teaching strategies in building students’ discipline and responsibility for learning in class?The purpose of this study is: To find out teachers’ teaching strategies in building students’ discipline and responsibility for learning in the class. The research method used is a qualitative description. Data sources were taken using observation and quesioner. Based on the results of the observation that the English teacher, SMP Negeri 20 Kupang uses two types of teaching strategies, namely game teaching strategies, small-group discussion teaching strategies and independent study teaching strategies. From the results of this study it can be conclouded that game teaching where the teacher plays an active role in presenting material to students, namely from general to more specific things. After that, students are given oppurtunity to think about the application of the concepts learned. Small group discussion teaching where the teacher gives students oppurtunity to share their opinions with other students. Then independent study teaching the teacher gives assignments or test to each task given by the teacher.
