Abstract
This research investigates the correlation between students' habit of watching English movies and their vocabulary mastery among seventh-semester students of the English Education Study Program at Artha Wacana Christian University. This subject has been choose because since they are already in the upper semester, the variation of habits and experiences of watching movies among these students tends to be more diverse. This provides more data for analysis, so that the research results are more in-depth and representative. Vocabulary mastery is essential for effective communication, and watching English movies is often proposed as a method to enhance language skills by exposing learners to native vocabulary and context. This study utilized a quantitative approach with a correlational research design, employing a questionnaire to assess movie-watching habits and a vocabulary level test to measure vocabulary mastery. The sample comprised 24 students from the English Education Study Program. Analysis of the data, using Spearman's Rho correlation, indicated a correlation coefficient of rxy = 0.315, which falls within the range of 0.20-0.399. This score represents a weak or insignificant correlation between the students' habit of watching English movies and their vocabulary mastery. Thus, the findings suggest that watching English movies alone does not significantly impact vocabulary acquisition. It is recommended that English movie-watching be used alongside structured language activities to support vocabulary development.
