Abstract

Language learning generally integrates group work to enhance understanding and collaboration, yet students’ perceptions of its implementation in Intensive Reading classes remain understudied. What are students' perceptions of the use of group work in Intensive Reading class? This study aims to address this question as part of fulfilling the requirements for an undergraduate degree in English at Artha Wacana Christian University. The research used a descriptive approach with 22 second-semester students taking the Intensive Reading course as participants. Data was collected using a questionnaire with open-ended questions distributed via Google Forms, and all respondents provided valid responses that were analyzed thematically. Findings show that students recognize benefits of group work in improving understanding and collaboration, though challenges related to coordination and member compatibility exist. The study concludes that group work has a positive impact on Intensive Reading learning, but improvements to its implementation process are needed to maximize its effectiveness. It is hoped that this study will be beneficial for instructors and students in optimizing the use of group work.
