Abstract

This study aims to understand Teacher’s Responds To Strategies Applied In Teaching Reading Comprehension At Smpn 5 Kota Kupang. The research uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews. The subjects of this study are Grade VIII English teachers. The results show that teachers responded positively to the implementation of strategies such as Pre-Reading Activities, Vocabulary Building, Skimming and Scanning, Guided Reading and Questioning, Graphic Organizers, Summarizing, and Group Discussion and Sharing. Teachers assessed that these strategies help increase students’ interest and comprehension in reading English texts. However, they also faced challenges in implementation, such as differences in students' abilities and limited instructional time. Overall, teachers supported the implementation of these strategies as they are considered effective in improving students’ reading skills. Despite challenges such as time constraints and limited facilities, teachers were able to overcome these obstacles through creativity in teaching. This study provides valuable contributions for teachers, students, and future researchers in developing effective instructional approaches to enhance students’ reading comprehension skills.
