Reading is an important factor in learning English, with a good strategy/method in teaching can help students develop their reading skills. Because in teaching English reading is very important to develop students' speaking skills in English, The main purpose of this study was to find out how teachers apply the strategy of continuous silent reading (SSR) in learning English, and respond to students' responses to the application of continuous silent reading (SSR) on students' reading skills, in Class VIIIG SMP Lentera Harapan Kupang. The research method used is qualitative research and the research design is descriptiveThe instruments used are observation, questionnaires and interviews, The population of this study consisted of 30 students and 2 English subject teachers. The sample of this study was 32. The results showed that the way the teacher implemented the SSR reading strategy was quite successful from 30 students, including 24 students who were quite proficient in the SSR reading strategy, and gave a good response when the teacher implemented the SSR strategy and 6 other students were less successful in mastering the SSR reading strategy, so to find out these factors, the researcher gave a questionnaire to 6 students who did not master/felt bored with the implementation of the SSR reading strategy. There are five main factors that affect the six students, namely: low English comprehension, lack of reading habits, lack of motivation/encouragement, lack of time spent in SSR, and lack of reading skills, which are the main factors that cause some students in class VIIIG not to follow SSR well, thus affecting the six students in students reading SSR
