English learning at the elementary school level has an important role in developing students’ communication abillity and general competence. However, for elementary school students at SD GMIT 7 Oebufu, foreign language that is difficult to learn. Learning a foreign language requires repetition and drills. The research problem is whether the use of the audio-lingual method can improve students speaking ability at SD GMIT 7 Oebufu. The aim of this study is to find out whether the use of the audio lingual method improves students’ speaking ability at SD GMIT 7 Oebufu. A pre-experimental research method with a one-group pretest-posttest design was used. The results showed a significant increase in students’ speaking ability, with an average pre-test score of 66 and a post-test score of 80. The t-test result also show the significance between the t-test and the t-table. Where the calculated the t test value is 12.9615 and the t table value is 2.0639, it can be said t test > t table. Which means that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. So, the use of the audio-lingual method improves students’ speaking ability at SD GMIT 7 Oebufu. These results have implications for the development of English teaching methods in elementary schools.
