Abstract
This research entitled A Teacher's Strategies in Teaching Speaking skills to Students, highlights the importance of effective teaching strategies in enhancing students' knowledge and communication skills. The study aims to explore the strategies employed by teachers in teaching speaking skills at SMP Negeri 5 Kota Kupang. This study is a field research with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection methods included observations and interview, while data analysis involved reduction, display, and verification techniques. The subjects of this research were one English teacher and 28 eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Kota Kupang. The focus of this study was the implementation of speaking strategies used by the teacher. The findings indicate that the teacher employed various strategies, including cooperative activities, roleplay, stimulation, and drilling. Among these, drilling was the most frequently used strategy, as it actively engaged many students in the learning process.
