Abstract

This study aims to explore the characteristic of English learners in teaching English at SMA Negeri 9 Kupang. There are 4 main focuses: (1) analyzing how students learn and the characteristic of visual Learners (2) analyzing how students learn using auditory (3) analyzing students character in kinesthetic learning 4) analyzing how students learn using tactile. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection methods through observation. English learning is a complex process and is influenced by various factors, including learner characteristic. This study aims to identify the characteristic of English learners at the senior high school level of SMA Negeri 9 Kupang. Learners characteristic can be interpreted as individual mental factors that can affect learning activities. Multiple intelligences are given a special intelligences category directly for each individual. The conclusion obtained is that each individual who learns is unique in understanding material in information, therefore a teacher or educator need to provide the right model and method to optimize students abilities in improving their competence. The result of this study can be used as a reference for developing more effective learning strategies and in accordance with the needs of students.
