Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using the Point-Illustration-Explanation (PIE) strategy in teaching descriptive texts among 10th-grade students at SMA 1 Taebenu. The research method employed is a pre-experimental study with a quantitative design, involving the measurement of learning outcomes through pre-tests and post-tests. Data were collected from two groups: a control group and an experimental group. The results showed significant improvements in students' writing abilities in both groups; however, the experimental group that implemented the PIE strategy demonstrated a greater improvement, with a Mean of Difference of 24.64 compared to 21.93 in the control group. Further statistical analysis using T-Test also indicated a significant difference between the two groups, with a T value of 27.09 for the control group and 17.44 for the experimental group. These findings support Cross's (1998) theory that the PIE strategy can enhance students' writing processes. This study is expected to contribute to teachers in developing more effective teaching methods and serve as a reference for future research in the field of education.
