Abstract

This research was conducted to improve students' English speaking skills by using story telling strategies in grade X of SMA Negeri 2 Kupang. The purpose of this study was to determine whether story telling strategies improve English language skills of SMA Negeri 2 Kupang. Researchers use pre-experimental research as a research method. To collect data, researchers used pre-test, treatment and post-test. In analyzing the data, researchers used simple statistical analysis of students' pre-test and post-test scores. The sample of this study consisted of one class at SMA Negeri 2 Kota Kupang, specifically Class 10 (X), which consisted of a total of 20 students. To collect data, researchers gave a speaking test, namely storytelling, which was carried out in two stages, namely pre-test and post-test. Test scores assess 5 aspects: pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Students obtained an average of 48.8 pre-test results and increased in post-test results obtained by students by 74.4. Therefore, it can be concluded that this method improves students' speaking skills in the learning process.
