Abstract

Semantics is one of the branches of linguistics that studies meaning. Then meaning is the semantic relationship between elements in the word system. In semantics, there is a relationship of meaning which is the meaning contained in a word that refers to the concept of the word itself related to its meaning relationship. The relationship of meaning in semantics has many types. There are synonyms, antonyms, homonyms, polysemy, hyponym. In this study, the author focuses on the semantic meaning of three choices of Rote's traditional songs. Researchers investigated the types and meanings in Rote's songs. This study consists of two research problems as follows: 1.What is the types in Roteness songs? 2.What is the Massage found in Roteness songs? The purpose of this study is to answer the problems in this study using a theory by Hornby (2000: 721) about lexical meaning. This study used qualitative descriptive methods to describe the results. Research using data reduction: data reduction means summarizing, selecting, and focusing the main data as a theme, displaying the collected data in an organized manner and presenting the data in a brief description that will lead to conclusions, as well as conclusions (describing/verifying); draw conclusions and give some recommendations. Researcher found that lexical meaning differed from inference. The actual meaning corresponds to the situation in which they are used. In this case, the situation referred to above is a term in the lyrics of the traditional song Rote. Therefore, these three traditional songs are included in meaning and function. By knowing the lexical and contextual meaning, the author concludes that in the three traditional songs of Rote one can know the types and functions of the songs.
