Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of 16 Minute English video podcast from BBC Learning English in improving thematic vocabulary mastery and to explore students' perspectives toward its use. The study was motivated by the need for innovative, contextual, and authentic vocabulary learning media to improve thematic vocabulary mastery among fifth-semester students of the English Language Education Study Program at Artha Wacana Christian University. A quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach was employed. The participants were 25 fifth-semester students from the English Language Education Study Program at Artha Wacana Christian University. The treatment was conducted over two weeks using selected episodes of. 6 Minute English video podcast. Data were collected through a 30-item multiple-choice vocabulary test and a 20-item Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 27. The Paired Sample t-Test revealed a significance value of <0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant improvement in students' thematic vocabulary mastery. The mean score increased from 63.99 on the pre-test to 91.87 on the post-test, with an average N-Gain Score of 76.17%, categorized as high. The questionnaire yielded an overall mean score of 4.38, indicating that students strongly agreed with the use of video podcast as a learning medium. These findings demonstrated that 6 Minute English video podcast was an effective and well-received medium for improving thematic vocabulary mastery in the EFL context at Artha Wacana Christian University.
