Abstract
focuses an analysis what are the factors of student’s speaking fluency at UKAW Kupang in academic year 2024/2025. The research question guiding this study is: What are the factors of student’s speaking fluency at UKAW Kupang in the academic year 2024/2025? and Aim of study To know what are the factors of student’s speaking fluency at Ukaw Kupang In Academic Year 2024/2025. This study employs a qualitative method by utilizing questionnaires as the primary instrument for data collection, involving 20 students as respondents. The study refers to theories from researchers such as Thornbury (2005) and others who have examined factors speaking fluency. The findings reveal that cognitive factors, such as limited vocabulary, frequent pauses, memory lapses, and low confidence, significantly hinder speaking fluency, as students often experience fear and nervousness when speaking in public. Furthermore, linguistic factors including pronunciation, grammar, word stress, rhythm, and intonation also play a crucial role, as most students struggle with distinguishing similar sounds, applying correct word stress, and using proper intonation, which frequently results in misunderstandings and a lack of speech clarity. Moreover, affective factors such as fear of making mistakes and low self-confidence emerge as major obstacles to fluent speaking In conclusion, the study finds that speaking fluency is influenced by a combination of cognitive, linguistic, and affective factors, and therefore, addressing these challenges requires an integrated approach that enhances both students’ language skills and their emotional readiness. Hence, it is suggested that educators at UKAW Kupang implement more interactive speaking activities, emphasize pronunciation and stress training, and foster a supportive classroom atmosphere to reduce students’ fear and build their confidence in speaking English.
