Abstract
vThis study aimed to investigate students’ and teachers’ responses toward the use of flashcards in teaching English vocabulary to young learners. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method, supported by teacher interviews to strengthen the questionnaire findings. The participants consisted of 60 students and three English teachers from three elementary schools: SDI Nunbaun Delha, SD Advent Kupang, and SD Fatufeto 1. Students’ data were collected through a structured questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale, while teachers’ data were obtained through questionnaires and structured interviews. The results revealed that students across all three schools demonstrated highly positive responses to the use of flashcards, with mean scores ranging from 4.0 to 4.95. Flashcards were perceived as enjoyable, interesting, and helpful in understanding and remembering vocabulary. Students also reported increased participation and collaborative learning during flashcard activities. However, although enjoyment and engagement were high, students’ self-confidence in using English vocabulary remained relatively moderate, indicating that confidence develops gradually despite positive learning experiences.Teachers’ responses similarly showed strong acceptance of flashcards as an instructional medium. Teachers reported that flashcards supported visual understanding, improved classroom interaction, and created a more engaging learning atmosphere. Nevertheless, teachers also identified practical challenges, particularly the time required to prepare flashcards and the need for effective classroom management due to students’ high excitement levels. In conclusion, flashcards were positively received by both students and teachers and contributed to a supportive and interactive vocabulary learning environment. While flashcards effectively facilitated engagement and comprehension, successful implementation depends on teachers’ preparation and classroom management strategies.
