Abstract

This research entitled “A Study on Classroom Interaction At SD GMIT Oesapa InThe Academic Year 2023/2024”. The research problem is: What are the types of interaction in ELT at SD GMIT Oesapa in the Academic Year 2023/2024? andWhat are the roles of English teacher on ELT classroom interaction at SD GMIT Oesapa in the Academic Year 2023/2024? Theaim of this study is to find out the types of interactions and the roles of English Teacher in the classroom interaction in ELT. In this study, the writer used descriptive qualitative method. The instruments used for gaining the data from the school was observationwith observation checklist as the instrument. The instrument consists of 2 indicators, each indicator has 7 statements and 5 statements.The result of this research found seventypes of interactions and five roles of English teacher on ELT classroom interaction. The seven types of interaction are as follows: teacher speaks to the whole class, teacher speaks to an individual, teacher speaks to a group of student, students speaks to teacher, student speaks to students, students speaks to a group of members and students speak to the whole class. Meanwhile, roles of teachers are the teacher as controller, the teacher as organiser, the teacher as director, the teacher as facilitator and the teacher as resource. The result provedthat the interaction between English teacher and students is still imbalance. Because in the interaction that occur in the classroom the teacher speaks more often than the students. Meanwhile, the teacher’s role in classroom interaction is very important to facilitate students in the learning process that occurs in the classroom.
