Abstract

research aims to explore the effectiveness of using short drama techniques in second grade English learning at SMK Negeri 1 Amarasi Selatan. This research uses a Classroom Action Research, approach with two cycles, involving class X1 as an experimental class with 18 students. The research results show that the application of short drama techniques has a positive impact on improving English learning. In the analysis of data acquisition, there was a significant increase in students' role playing scores from the first cycle to the second cycle. The increase in the average score reached 57.48%, indicating that student participation and performance increased substantially. For example, from meeting 1 to meeting 2 in the first cycle, there was an increase of 12.5%, and from meeting 2 to meeting 3, there was a significant increase of 58.33%. The second cycle also showed an increase, with meeting 4 to meeting 5 and meeting 5 to meeting 6 showing an increase of 10.77% and 22.22% respectively. Inter-cycle analysis showed an improvement of 57.48%, reflecting the effectiveness of the implemented corrective actions. Overall, these changes reflect the success of the interventions and learning methods implemented in the Classroom Action Research study. It is important to note that these improvements not only involve student role-play scores, but also create a more productive and participatory classroom atmosphere. The application of short drama techniques helps increase student motivation, creativity and involvement in the process of learning to speak English. Recommendations from this research can be used as a reference for teachers and education stakeholders in developing interesting learning methods, especially in improving students' speaking skills in English learning environments in non-English schools. By continuing to encourage the use of short drama techniques, it is hoped that English learning can become more interesting, effective, and can have a positive impact on students' speaking abilities.
