Abstract

This study discussed the “Semantic Analysis on Traditional Songs Lyrics in Letti Language”. The aims of the study are: (1) To find out the types of meaning in semantic analysis on traditional songs lyrics in Letti language, and (2) To find out the dominant types of meaning in semantic analysis on traditional songs lyrics in Letti language. The writer took three songs, they were; Nara Awake AmpunTiow song, InkuAmku song and Ina Ama song. The data taken from videos on YouTube channel of RintoLewen.The method of this study was descriptive qualitative method. In analyzing the data, the writer use the theory about semantics meaning by Leech (In Pardede 2016).The result of this study showed that there were seven types of meanings in RinroLewen channel; conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, social meaning, affective meaning,reflective meaning, co-locative meaning and the last one is thematic meaning. While the dominant types of those traditional song lyrics is affective meaning with a total 11 points and a total dominant 34.38%. After making the analysis on the semantics meaning in Song Lyrics in Letti language, the writer expects this research could give some information or knowledge about semantic meaning used in Letti language. The writer also expects that young generation of the island of Letti in Maluku, just east of Timor have to care of local language as one of the wealth of their culture must be preserved.
