Abstract

This research studied example non-example learning techniques to improve the speaking skills of students SMP Negeri Eno Nekmese, with a population of students in grades VIII and IX. The main aim of this research is to determine whether or not there has been an improvement using the example non-example technique in classes VIII and IX with a population of 38 students. This research uses a true experimental quantitative method, data is collected from speaking tests and description tests. Data can be determined by calculating the average score of students in the experimental group and control group. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the scores of students in the experimental group and the control group, with an average score in the experimental group of 71.3 and in the control group of 62.3. There are significant results between the pre test and post test based on the result values, the calculated t value (9.98) is greater than the t table value (1.68) with df – N-2. This means that the hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the hypothesis (H1) is accepted. This shows that using the example non example technique can improve students' speaking abilities. Apart from that, the total score in the experimental group was 1426 and the total score in the control group was 1185. From the results of this research it can be concluded that using the example-non-example technique as a learning medium can improve the speaking skills of class VIII and class IX students of SMP Negeri Eno Nekmese.
