Abstract
This research is about the teaching strategies used by teachers in teaching descriptive text. The objectives of this research are 1. To describe the strategies used to teach descriptive text to tenth grade students at Tarus Christian High School. 2. To describe how to apply descriptive text teaching strategies in the tenth grade of Tarus Tengah Christian High School. The subjects in this research are English teachers. The method used in this research is the descriptive qualitative method where the data collection technique is observation and interview. The results of this research show that the English teacher of class X SMA Science/IPS uses the picture and picture strategy and the Guessing game strategy in teaching descriptive text. The aim of tenth grade students learning to write descriptive text is to make it easier for them to describe things simply. The research can conclude that learning using the picture and picture strategy and the gussing game strategy makes it easier for students to learn descriptive text, understand the contents of images, remember the contents of images and makes it easier for students to answer questions from images.
