Abstract

The main aim of this research is to find out story grammar strategies for improving students' reading skills. This research was conducted at SMPN. Fatukoto has a population of class VIII students and the sample for this research. The total population is 22 students. The method used in this research is quantitative, and the research design is pre-experimental. The instruments used in this research were multiple-choice tests and essays. Data collection techniques can be determined by calculating the average score of students in the Pre-Experimental group. The results of the research show that there is a significant difference between the scores of students in the Pre-Experimental group there are significant results between the pre-test and post-test based on the result values, the t-calculated value (5.18) is higher than the t-table value (1.32) with df = N-1. This means that the hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the hypothesis (H1) is accepted. This shows that the influence of story grammar strategies in narrative texts can improve students' reading abilities. Research Questions have been answered. In addition, the total score in the Pre-Experimental group was pre-test 62.95 and post-test 67.27 total score in posttest 1480 and total score in pretest 1385. Story grammar strategies in narrative texts improve students' reading skills, and students' ways of thinking open up more quickly. Therefore, story grammar strategies in narrative texts can improve students' reading skills.
