Abstract

The main objective of this study was to find out the effect of Elicitation Technique, in improving students’ speaking skills. The research method employed was quantitative research. The research design utilized a pre-experimental design with one-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample for this study consisted of a single class at second grade of SMAN 7 kupang, specifically Class XI-7, Data collection techniques are found by calculating the average score on the pre-test and post-test., there were significant results between the pre-test and post-test based on the result of the value, the value of t-test (2678) was higher than the value of t-table (2069) with df = N-1. It means that the hypothesis(Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis(H1) was accepted. This showed that the effect of Elicitation Techniques significant in students’ speaking skills. The research question has been answered. In addition, the total score of experimental pre-test 1564 and the total score of post-test was 2060. The Elicitation Technique, develop students’ way of thinking to be broader and dynamic mindset. Therefore, Elicitation Technique can be used as an alternative teaching Technique, in improving students’ speaking skill.
