Abstract
Sociolinguistic is a field of science that studies the use of language in social contexts. In using language, variations of language are often found in the form of interference, code switching, and code mixing, these things are caused when someone masters more than one language. Code mixing is a type of language variation that is often found in communication, this mixing is in the form of inserting elements of another language in to the language that is being used. In this research, the author is interested in researching a video from BNS YouTube channel, while the reason the author is interested in researching is because videos from this channel often find language variations using Kupang Malay, English, and there have never been previous researchers who examined videos from this channel. The aims of this research are to find out and describe the forms and types of code mixing using Kupang Malay, as well as the types and forms of code mixing using English into Indonesian in the conversation in this video.The method used in this research was a qualitative descriptive method. Based on the results of data analysis, the author concluded that the types of code mixing using Kupang Malay into Indonesian were inner code mixing, and the types of code mixing using English into Indonesian were outer code mixing. The forms of code mixing found in this video were insertion of words, phrases, and reduplication. The types of inner code mixing found were 15 data, outer code mixing 18 data, while forms of code mixing found namely, insertion of word were 20 data, insertion of phrase 10 data, and there was only one data of reduplication.
