Abstract
Methodology used in this research is quantitative research method. The design of this research is a pre-experimental design of a one-group pretest-posttest design. In this study, the results of the treatment can be known more accurately, because they can compare with the situation before being treated (treatment). The design of this research is as follows. The sample is part of the number and characteristics possessed by the population. In this study, the sample consisted of only one class in the population of class VIII, based on the results of preliminary observations there are low learning outcomes, especially in English subjects in class VIII.2 SMP Kristen 3 Soe, South Mollo District, TTS Regency, with totaling 25 students’, 8 Males and 17 Females. To collect data, the researcher conducted tests. The researcher Gave a test of writing descriptive text in 2 phases, namely pretest and post-test. The test score consisted of five aspects. that aspects; measuring are the content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics. Whereas in the observation section, Based on the score in the pretest, 22 students got a very poor score and 2 students got fair score. Based on the score in the posttest, 4 students got an excellent score, 13 students got a good score, and 8 students got fair. Based on the analysis of research data, the researcher concludes that running dictation can develop students’ writing ability in class VIII.2 SMP Kristen 3 Soe. This can be seen from the main score of students on the pretest was 4,0 and on the posttest 7,1 as well as an increase in students’ writing ability by 77%. So, it was concluded that the running dictation method can develop students’ writing ability in the learning process.
