Abstract

This study aims to find out students knowledge about parts of speech which consists of nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, article conjunctions, and to determine students' understanding of part of speech at SMP N 2 Amanatun Selatan. To determine student learning, the researcher used a multiple-choice test and the author also used three kinds of assessment methods, namely, good, bad and bad. The results of the study show that most students poor grades compared to good grades. The reason why students get poor grades is because students lack material and students also cannot speak English. So the researchers concluded that the ability of the part of speech component of students at SMP Negeri 2 Amanatun Selatan still did not meet the learning standards. The reason is that students lack time to study, because there is only one English teacher so they learn less English and most students cannot speak English so they learn English when they enter school and they learn more English when the teacher provide theory. At first they did not know what to do and how to respond but as they spoke they had a conversation.
