Abstract
The main aim of this research is to find out whether peer-assisted learning strategies are effect for students' reading comprehension. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 10 Kupang, with a population of 304 students and the sample for this research was class IX H 30 students. The method used in this research is quantitative and the research design is Pre-Experimental. The instrument used in this research is a multiple choice test. Data collection techniques can be determined by calculating the average score of students in the Pre-Experimental group. The research results showed that there was a significant difference between the scores of students in the Pre-Experimental group. There were significant results between the pre-test and post-test based on the results, the calculated t value (4.61) was higher compared to the t-table value (1.69) with df =N-1. This means that the hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the hypothesis (H1) is accepted. This shows that the influence of peer-assisted learning has an influence on students' reading abilities. The research questions have been answered. In addition, the total score in the Pre-Experimental group was 56.33 in the pre-test and the total post-test score was 76.66 in the post-test 2300 and the total pre-test score was 1690. Therefore, peer-assisted learning strategies had an effect on students' reading comprehension.
