Abstract

This research investigates and analyzes the intrinsic elements in folklore. Intrinsic elements are elements in the story itself, such as plot, theme, characters, setting, point of view, language style, and moral message, theory by (Nurgiyantoro 2013). This research aims to describe the results of the analysis of the intrinsic elements of the folklore of Kupang, the Dawan tribe, North Central Timor district, East Nusa Tenggara "Lilo dan Puteri Tarum". The method in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. This research uses documentation techniques with the folk tale "Lilo dan Puteri Tarum" as a research instrument. The results of data analysis show that the folk tale "Lilo dan Puteri Tarum" has a chronological plot, the dominant theme in this story is family love and sacrifice. The characters in the story have a protagonist, antagonist and tritagonist, the setting of this story is located in Dawan Village, Nusa East Southeast, with various places used as story settings. This story uses a third person point of view. The language styles used in this story include personification, similes and metaphors. The moral message that can be taken from this story is the importance of having strong emotional ties to family, protection from violence and oppression, and loyalty and support for important people in life. This folklore can be an interesting research source for the public and other researchers, to find out more about the culture and values contained in folklore.
