Abstract

The title of this research is An Analysis on the Situation context of Zaiso, (A traditional culture) by Wewewanese in Southwest Sumba. This research aims to find out the field, tenor, and mode of Zaiso. The method used in this research is the Descriptive Method. The writer uses interviews and observation as instruments to collect data. Observation is done when the process of Zaiso tooks place in the village. There were two native speakers chosen as the informants by recordied their speeches. All the data gained were analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method, in which it focused on field, tenor, and mode. Based on the Analysis, it was found out that the field of Zaiso was something happened namely someone who died unnaturally, the tenor of Zaiso were the Ratos (the leader of the ceremony), Host and homefolk. The leader of the ceremony (Rato) second Rato assisted the first rato in repeating the chants for all the people who come in the process of Zaiso celebrating and the ritual was extended to dialogue and chanting. and the mode of Zaiso was the spoken language of Wewewa in which it trealied in the use of textual theme namely, theme and rheme.
