Abstract
This research is entitled improving students pronunciation skill through English Language Speech Assistant (ELSA) application at UKAW. Pronunciation skill is one of four skills important in English, but some students had problems with their pronunciation skill. The writer used English Language Speech Assistant (ELSA) application in teaching English especially by using ELSA content display to help students improving their pronunciation skill. The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of mobile assisted English language speech assistant (ELSA) application in improving students’ pronunciation skill. This research used pre-experimental design. The population of the research was 136 students of EESP, which 18 students of 2nd semester EESP UKAW in Kupang were chosen purposively as sample of this research. In collecting the data, the writer used pre-test and post-test to know students’ pronunciation skill. The result of data analysis show that the mean score of students on pre-test was 15. After the treatment given by the writer, the mean score of students on post-test was 18,44 and the improvement was 23%. The data analysed by using t-test. The t-test value (1,4) was greater than t-table value (1.740) the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. The result showed that there was an improvement on students’ pronunciation skill through English Language Speech Assistant (ELSA) application. in teaching and learning using Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) technology capabilities can improve students’ pronunciation skill in English using the English Language Speech Assistant (ELSA) speak application, it was proven by the students’ post-test score is higher than pre-test score from the level 57% to the level 85%.
