Abstract
Thisresearchis entitled“Grammatical errors in translating text from Indonesian into English done by the fourth-semester students of the English Education Study Program”. Problem of this research is: 1. What are the types of grammatical errors in translating text from Indonesian into English done by the fourth-semester students of the English Education Study Program? 2. What are the dominant types of grammatical errors in translating text from Indonesian into English done by the fourth-semester students of the English Education Study Program? This study aims to identify and analyze grammatical errors made by fourth semester students of the English Education Study Program when translating texts from Indonesian into English. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, focusing on error analysis based on the Surface Strategy Taxonomy proposed by Dulay, Burt, and Krashen (1982). The sample were 10 from 35 students. Data source were used the one text translation. Based on the results the students used four types of grammatical errors: omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. Misformation was identified as the most dominant error type. The findings indicate that students still experience difficult in understanding and applying English grammatical structures that differ significantly from Indonesian grammar. This research recomend the need for more intensive grammar instruction and translation strategies to enhance students competence in translating text accurately and grammatically.
