Abstract

The title of this research is “AN ANALYSIS OF AMPLIFICATION TECHNIQUE IN TRANSLATING ENGLISH NOVEL “HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER’S STONE” TO INDONESIA.” This study aims to analyze the amplification techniques in translating the novel “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” from English to Indonesian and how frequently these techniques are employed. The method used in this research is qualitative, with data collection through comparative analysis. Data collected from 2 chapters reveal the presence of amplification techniques used by the translator, with a total of 23 sentences identified. Among these sentences, 20 employ amplification techniques with the criterion of “making implicit information explicit,” 1 sentence uses the criterion of “Bridging Grammatical Gaps,” and 2 sentences use the criterion of “Describing Cultural Terms.” The translator of this novel demonstrates skill in employing amplification techniques, evident in the accurate and clear explanations of each term from English to Indonesian, thereby facilitating reader comprehension. The conclusion drawn from this study is that mastery of amplification techniques is crucial for a translator to avoid interpretational errors that may confuse readers. The researcher acknowledges the limitations of this study but hopes that future research can refine and complement these findings, serving as a reference for other researchers and readers alike.
