Abstract
The purpose of this research is to find out what types of euphemisms are found in the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S Chudori and what are the meanings of euphemisms found in the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S Chudori. This research method used descriptive qualitative method and the data was taken from the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S Chudori. This research used documentary analysis. The analysis was focused on type and meaning. The result of the study showed that in the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S Chudori, the researcher only found 5 types of euphemism, namely: 1.) Methapor, example telah bertemu malaikat ‘have met angels’ means to declare death. 2). Idiom, example pemerintah gatal-gatal ‘government itching’ means the government feels disturbed 3.) Curcumulation example kamar kecil ‘small room’ means toilet 4.) Acronym And Abbreviation, PKI ‘partai komunis Indonesia’ means rebels 5). Hyperbole example orang yang kita percaya ternyata memegang pisau dan menusuk punggung kita ‘person we trusted is holding a knife and stabbing us in the back’ means people we trust can betray us. The researcher also explained the meaning of euphemism. The meanings of euphemisms are all included in the connotative meaning, such as Ada seekor ular di antara kita ‘There is a snake among us’ means There is a traitor among us they were included as connotative meaning because euphemism itself is a refinement of words where a word is used to replace the actual word which is considered ruder.
