Abstract

The study focuses on the use of mind mapping strategy to improve students’ ability in writing procedure text. The purposes of this study were to give description about doe's mind mapping strategy method could be applied in teaching learning writing procedure text. In order to reach the goals of this study, the research designed an action research which consists of three meetings, and it was done through sequence of cycles. The students were given some treatments and writing tests in order to obtain a description about students’ ability in writing procedure text. This study was held SMPTK Iman Putun on 12-14 Decemcer, 2022. Class IX in academic year of 2022/2023 was chosen because of recommendation from English teacher about unsatisfying result of the students’ writing aspects. Based on the English teacher’s statement, the students’ achievement in reading, speaking and listening aspects of the procedure text as material at first semester was good enough. However, students’ still needed a new method or teaching learning strategy to maximize students achievement in producing procedure text. There were fifty students in this class and three kinds of writing test in this research, as pre-test, treatment and post-test. This study uses a Quasi-Experimental design . This design consists of a pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The treatment of this research was one meeting. The mean score of students in the Experimental class in the pre-test was 53,92 and 59,36 for the control class. The mean score in the post-test for the experimental class was 68,16 and 57,84 for the control class. results of the pre-test t-test were 1.95 and 3.05 in the post-test. Post-test results are greater than the pre-test (3.05< 1,95). Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the use of mind mapping strategy has a positive effect on learning to improve students' abilities in writing procedural texts for grade nine students of SMPTK Iman Putun.
