Abstract

This thesis is entitled "student responses to the use of dictionaries for vocabulary mastery at the Artha wacana Christian University of Kupang in second semester students of the 2022/2023 academic year". The problem is What is the student's response to using the dictionary for vocabulary mastery? The aim is to find out students' responses in using the dictionary for vocabulary mastery. The research method used is a qualitative method with a descriptive qualitative approach by distributing questionnaires to second semester students of the English study program at Artha wacana Christian university in Kupang. The results of student responses to the use of dictionaries for vocabulary mastery showed that students agreed because dictionaries were very useful for them where they could use dictionaries to translate and look for difficult words for them. learning media that is useful for increasing vocabulary where in the dictionary there are many words and their meanings which can increase their vocabulary because they often use the dictionary as a reference to look for words whose meaning is unknown, they realize that vocabulary mastery is needed and feel that they agree if the dictionary is used properly and correctly it can improve vocabulary mastery because when they don't know the meaning of a word then they will refer to the dictionary to find out the meaning of the word and with at least one day they read the dictionary they get vocabulary that can be a reference or capital so they able to compose a sentence, able to speak in English so that learning in class can run well even though there are some difficulties they experience when using a dictionary starting from difficulties in memorizing difficult words, how to memorize word forms to the incomplete dictionary used.
