Abstract

Metaphors are two things of implicit comparison where two different objects are compared to the factual, the first is the original meaning and the second is the metaphorical depiction. The purpose of this study was to analyse the types of metaphors and dominant metaphors using Parera's (2004) theory. The researcher used descriptive method. Data collection is done by reading the contents of the Gospel of Matthew based on the verses in sequence, reading it repeatedly, identifying and putting it into a table. Data is also analysed by classifying data, analysing data, deciding research findings, and drawing conclusions. The results in this study contained forty data found in the Gospel of Matthew: eleven types of anthropomorphic metaphors, nine types of animal metaphors, nineteen types of abstract to concrete metaphors and one type of synesthesia metaphor. Therefore, in Matthew's gospel is dominated by abstract to concrete metaphors
