Abstract

The problem asserted in this research were what are the types of language style found in Jokowi speech in the Independence Day celebration in 2019-2020 & what are the function of the language style. This problem led to the aims of the study that were to find out the types of language style and to describe the function of language style found in Jokowi speech on Independence Day celebration. This study focuses on language style that is used in the style of Jokowi speech, the data were taken from two videos on youtube channel, it was classified as documentary analysis. The research used descriptive qualitative method to anayzed the language style and the function of language style. There were four types that found in Jokowi speeches such as: frozen style: example yang saya hormati, formal style example: Indonesia maju bukan karya presiden, consultative style example: good Morning, shalom and etc, intimate style example: saudara sebangsa dan setanah air and the function language style that found were: to increase the audience’s teste, persuade the reader,andto create: rtain mood. Language styles used by Jokowi help him to get the audience’s interest. The way audiences response the speech actually is based on the styles that used by the Jokowi. The styles used actually depend on the situation when the speaker gives the speech. The research suggestion that may be able to facilitate for English students as the teachers candidate, readers and the next research.
