Abstract

It Focuses on the use of metacognitive strategies in writing thesis.aim of this Research is to investigate two research question: what are the metacognitive strategies wich used by english study program? and what are the strategies made for each chapter? there were 20 students who were writing their thesis was taken as the sample. this study was analysed by using descriptive qualitative method wich the writer presented the percentage of the use of metacognitive strategies by using percentage formula to see the percentage value of the use of each metacognitive strategies in writing their thesis. the result of this study shows that metacognitive strategies used by twenty students are: a.Organizing 75% (15 Student) b. setting the goals and Obkective, palning for a Language task 70% (14 Students) c. Overviewing and linking with alredy Known Material,Indentifying the purpose of a language task, paying attention 60% (12 students) d.self Monitoring 55% (11 sutdents) e.Self Evalueting 40% (8 Students) f. Finding about language learning 30% ( 6 Studnets) g. seeking practice opportunities 20% (4 Students) the strategies for each chaapter ordered from the students most used to the least as Follow : a.chapter 1 organizing 75% (15 Students)b.chapter 2 oraganizing 70% (14 Students) chapter 3 Identfying the purpose of a Language 95 % (19 studnets) d. chapter 4.planning for a language task 50% (10 Students) e. Chapter 5 35% (7 students).
