Abstract
This research is about an analysis on idiomatic expressions found in Robert Fahik’s novel Badut Malaka. To support this study the writer used theory of Fernando (1996:36). The other theory that the writer used come from Palmer (1986:27). The research problems of this study are what are the kinds of idiomatic expressions and how are the forms of the idiomatic expressions inBadut Malaka Novel by Robert Fahik. The aims of this study are to describe and classify the kinds and the forms of idiomatic expressions found in badut malaka novel by Robert Fahik. Qualitative method is used in doing this research. The data was taken from the Badut Malaka novel. In this research, the writer used documentation technique to collected the data from the novel ,then analyzed the idiomatic expression of each utterance that includes to the kinds of idiomatic expression and forms of idiomatic expression. After analyzing the data, the writer found three kinds of idiomatic expressions they are pure idiomatic, semi idiomatic, and literal idiomatic, and four forms of idiomatic expression are verb plus noun, verb plus adverb, verb plus preposition, and verb plus adverb and preposition used in the badut malaka Novel by Robert Fahik. The kinds of idiomatic expression are pure idiomatic, such as mengetuk dinding-dinding hatiyang beku, it is means give strength, semi idiomatic, such as melahirkan duka it is means a great sadness, literal idiomatic, such as kepala tegak it is means proudly, and the forms are verb plus noun, such as mengetuk dinding-dinding hatiit is means give strength, verb plus adverb, such as membaca dibalik dadamu it is means feel believe, verb plus preposition, such as tertancap diit is means borne, verb plus adverb and preposition, such as kembali ketanah kelahirannya dengan tegak kepala it is means proudly. After analyzing the data the writer found twenty five data of kinds idiomatic expressions used in badut malaka novel, that consist of : eight of idioms as pure idiomatic expression, four of idioms as semi idiomatic expression, and thirteen of idioms as literal idiomatic expression. The writer also found twelve data as a forms of idiomatic in novel, which is consist of : five data are verb plus noun, two data are verb plus adverb, three data are verb plush preposition ,and verb plus adverb and preposition are two.
