Abstract
This study aimed to find and describe the types and functions of deixis in the movie of “Beyond the Blackboard”. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method. The instrument of this research was documentary analysis and the data were collected through analysis the “Beyond the Blackboard” movie. Based on the research there were three types of deixis. The three types of deixis namely personal, spatial and temporal deixis. The used of personal deixis is demonstrated by the participants such as I, my, me, we, our, us (first person), you, your (second person) they, their, them, she, her, he, his, him, it (third person). The spatial deixis showed the location and place of occurrence of the participants such as there and here (proximal form), this, these and those (demonstrative form). In addition, temporal deixis showed the timing of speech events used in this film such as today, tomorrow, last night, next year, every day and years ago. Personal deixis functioned to point or refer something or personal. Spatial deixis functioned to express the location of an utterance and temporal deixis functioned to declare the time of an utterance.
