Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the types of conceptual metaphors and their semantic functions within the oral texts, prayers, and incantations chanted by the traditional leaders (Mone Ama) during the Hole ritual in Sabu Raijua. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through fieldwork, audio recording, and note-taking techniques. The data analysis was anchored in the theoretical framework of Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT) developed by Lakoff and Johnson (1980). The findings reveal three prominent types of conceptual metaphors embedded in the ritualistic language: structural, ontological, and orientational metaphors. The structural metaphor is identified through the visualization of communal life conceptualized as the physical structure of a boat (kowa) to symbolize collective preservation. The ontological metaphor materializes abstract divine blessings and agricultural fertility into a fluid substance poured upon the earth (tana). Meanwhile, the orientational metaphor utilizes the vertical spatial axis to place the supreme deity (Deo Ama) at the zenith of the universe (GOD IS UP). Overall, the application of these three metaphors serves not merely as aesthetic linguistic elements within the ritual, but fundamentally reflects the ethnolinguistic worldview of the Sabu Raijua community in maintaining social solidarity, ecological harmony with nature, and a structured cosmological order
