Abstract

This study analyzes the quality of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) used in summative assessment of 5th grade English at Agape Indah Elementary School based on established MCQ principles and standards. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with data collected from ten multiple-choice questions through documentation and analyzed using content analysis supported by an observation checklist. The findings show that the exam questions do not fully meet the standards for good MCQ construction. Some questions contain unclear stems, weak distractors, and limited alignment with learning indicators. All questions only measure low-level thinking skills at the C1 level (remembering), even though the accuracy of the correct answers is maintained. In conclusion, the quality of multiple-choice questions needs improvement. Teacher guidance and training are recommended to ensure the development of assessment questions that are aligned with learning objectives and established assessment standards.
