Abstract
Students’ Perceptions on the Influencing Factors in English Pronunciation of The Second Grade High School Students In SMA Negeri Kapan. This research aims to answer the research question: what are the influencing factors in students' English pronunciation proficiency. To answer this, the researcher used a qualitative descriptive method with individual interviews as the primary data collection technique. The research involved 18 students from the second grade. The data were analyzed using Brown’s (2001) framework of six influencing factors: native language, age, exposure, innate phonetic ability, identity and language ego, and motivation. The analysis revealed that all six factors were found in students’ responses, with native language interference as the most dominant issue. Students struggled to pronounce unfamiliar English sounds, had limited exposure to spoken English, and faced emotional barriers such as low confidence and fear of making mistakes. Although most students showed high motivation, many lacked consistent guidance and structured pronunciation practice. It can be concluded that students’ pronunciation proficiency is shaped by a combination of linguistic, psychological, and environmental factors. Teachers are expected to pay more attention to these aspects in the teaching process.
