Abstract

This current research is entitled The writer formulated two research questions, namely: (1) What are the types of body language in Lamaholot Culture? and (2) What are the functions of body language in Lamaholot Culture?. The aims of this research to find out the types of body language in Lamaholot Culture and the functions of body language inLamaholot Culture. The data was taken from interviewed the Lamaholot community and analyzed the data by using descriptive qualitative method. There are two types of body language in Lamaholot Culture, namely :1. Part of body, wich include 1).Head ‘Nado geri lodo’. 2). Facial expression, a).Eyebrows ‘Ilo mate’. b). Eyes ‘Mate bohi’ c). Nose ‘Geweru iru’. d). Lips ‘Giki wewe’. e). Tongue ‘Lolo ewel’. and f). Jaw ‘ Bea wewe’. 3). Eye contact ‘Niku weki’. 4). Body posture, a) Body proximity ‘Tobo ire no kerejehe’. b). Shoulder movement ‘Brikugeri lodo’. c). Arm placement ‘Teke ale’ d). Leg and feet movement ‘Tili lei’. 5). Hand and finger gesture, a) Hadling and placement object ‘Sedu ewe nawu / Breka ekewai’ b).Finger tapping or druming ‘ Deto lime’and 2. Intent, 1). voluntary/intentional movement ‘Penuhu lime’ and 2. Involuntary movement ‘Eke melihe’.And find out five function in Lamaholot culture, namely : 1). Affirms ‘Nado geri lodo’.2). Contradict‘Geka be’. 3).Substitution ‘Ligu lime’.4). Complementing ‘Giki wewe’. 5).Accenting ‘Pemela’.And there are thirtieth body language in Lamaholot Culture.
