Abstract
This study investigates the impact of Task-Based Learning Teaching (TBLT) on the English-speaking ability of Grade 5 students at SDN Danau Ina. The main problem addressed is whether TBLT influences these students' speaking skills. The study aims to identify the effectiveness of TBLT in enhancing speaking abilities. Using a quasi-experimental design and a quantitative approach, the research involved 40 students from two classes. The sample consisted of Grade 5 students at SDN Danau Ina. The research process included a pre-test at the first meeting, followed by four treatment sessions using TBLT methods: (1) pre-teaching, (2) while teaching, (3) post-teaching, and (4) post-test. The final meeting involved a post-test. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test scores, which were recorded and analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, average score) and inferential statistics (Independent sample t-test). The results showed significant differences between the experimental classes, indicating that TBL effectively improves students' speaking skills. The t-test results confirmed the effectiveness of TBLT in teaching speaking. English teachers are encouraged to use TBLT for better speaking classes, as it engages students through various activities, preventing boredom and developing all four language skills integratively. However, the method's drawback is the extensive preparation required before class, including dictation and preparing interesting visuals. Despite the time-consuming nature, TBLT proves beneficial in maintaining student interest and enhancing speaking abilities.
