Abstract

This research entitled “Students’ Perception in using Google Translate as a Media in Translation Class of English Education Study Program”. It is a qualitative descriptive study was conducted to explore students' perceptions of using Google Translate in Translation classes. The majority of the 23 respondents agreed that they used Google Translate as a medium in their academic routines, particularly when encountering unfamiliar words or challenging texts. Students found benefits in using Google Translate for word-by-word translations, understanding sentence structure and meaning, translating entire passages or documents, and comparing their translations for accuracy. The pronunciation feature of Google Translate also helped improve their speaking skills. However, emotional responses varied, with some students reporting feelings of satisfaction, relief, and confidence, while others expressed frustration and disappointment with the tool's inaccuracies and limitations. Concerns were also raised about becoming overly reliant on Google Translate. It was emphasized that students should use Google Translate critically, verify translations, and focus on skill development. The recommendations provided aim to guide the effective integration of Google Translate into translation education, balancing its benefits with its drawbacks.
