Abstract
The title of this research is “ANALYSIS OF STUDENT MOTIVATION IN LEARNING ENGLISH IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN SD INPRES LASIANA IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024.” This study aims to analyze whether students at SD Impres Lasiana are motivated intrinsically or extrinsically in learning English. The research method used is qualitative research. The research was conducted through questionnaires and interviews with 20 respondents to test whether the questionnaire results could be reinforced by interviews. The questionnaire results show that for intrinsic motivation, agree and strongly agree responses reach 100% for the first question, 95% for the second question, 90% for the third question, 55% for the fourth question, and 30% for the fifth question. For extrinsic motivation, agree and strongly agree responses reach 95% for the first question, 85% for the second question, 30% for the third question, 75% for the fourth question, and 50% for the fifth question. This data indicates that students’ motivation predominantly comes from within , although some students are motivated externally. The interview results reinforce this finding, with 15 students showing intrinsic motivation and 5 students showing extrinsic motivation. These findings suggest that most students enjoy learning English because of their inner drive, while a small portion are motivated externally. The research concludes that intrinsic motivation is more dominant than extrinsic motivation. Although the research results are not yet perfect, the researcher hopes they can serve as a reference for further research and be beneficial for students, teachers, and educational development in Indonesia.
