Abstract

The main aim of this research is to determine the use of collaborative strategies in improving students' reading abilities. This is intended to obtain reliable information whether there are significant differences in students' reading comprehension between the experimental class and the control class. This research was conducted at SD Lentera Harapan Kupang, with a population of students from class five and the sample for this research was class 5A and 5C, that every class consist of 26 students. The total population is 52 students. The method used in this research is a quantitative method, and the design of this research is Quasi-Experimental. In this research, the researcher gave a test as an instrument to collect student data on reading comprehension. The type of test used is a multiple choice test with a total of 10 questions. Based on calculations, the results of data analysis show that the average pre-test score for the experimental class is 47.30 and the average pre-test score for the control class is 40.76. The average post-test score for the experimental class was 89.23 and the average post-test score for the control class was 62.69. It can be seen that student learning outcomes in the experimental class are higher than student learning outcomes in the control class. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of collaborative strategies is effective in improving students' reading comprehension.
