Abstract

This research was carried out with the title (Improving speaking skills usingdrama method for class 2ndstudents ofSMPN 10 KUPANG in academic year 2022/2023." The aim of this research is to find out whether using drama method can improve students' speaking skills. The research problem is, "Can drama method improve speaking skills in class VIIID students of SMPN 10 KUPANG? To answer this research problem, the writer used a pre-experimental method involving 27 students by giving a pre-test to each student first. Then a post-test was given, where the pre-test results showed an average score of 38, which was still classified as bad, while the post-test results showed an average score of 68 with good criteria. The research results showed that there was a significant increase in speaking skills after being taught using drama method. The use of drama techniques opens up opportunities to support English-speaking skills with advantages compared to conventional teaching patterns. In addition, the research results show that students develop positive attitudes when adopting drama classes, which can improve their skills. Therefore, it can be concluded that teaching using drama can improve the speaking skills of grade 8 students at this school.
