Abstract
The thesis is entitled "An analysis of interjections used by students’ during English conversations at SMP Negeri 10 Kupang." The problem formulation of this research includes the following questions: (1) What interjections are used by students during English conversations at SMP Negeri 10 Kupang? (2) What types of interjections are used by students during English conversations at SMP Negeri 10 Kupang? The purposes of this research are: (1) To know the types of interjections students use during English conversations at SMP Negeri 10 Kupang, and (2) To identify types of interjections used by students during English conversations at SMP Negeri 10 Kupang. This research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach to explore interjections used by students. Data were collected from student conversations, with participants being students of SMP Negeri 10 Kupang, specifically in class VII A. The analysis involved observing and selecting interjections found in student conversations. These findings reveal interjections and several types of interjections used by students. Interjections are little words or nonwords that can stand on their own and have their own word class found in any language. The interjection used by students during English conversations at SMP Negeri 10 Kupang it can be seen there are 13 conversation and 29 interjections in there conversation. Interjections can be divided into two types: primary interjections and secondary interjections. Primary interjection namely, Wow!,Yups!, Sshh!, Oops!, I am sorry!, Ouch!, Psst!, Oho!, Aha!, and secondary interjection namely, Oh my God!, Oh my Goodness!, Thank God!, Shut up!.
